Amar'e Stoudemire thinks Dwight Howard is "Aight"

Amar'e's talking mess now. I guess he's got a New York state of mind.

Reports came out that at the shootaround for the Magic vs Knicks game Dwight Howard was sparing in his praise of Amar’e Stoudemire , perhaps having read Stoudemire’s comments saying the Magic center is “a little limited offensively.”
Stodemire vs Howard

“I don’t pay attention to nobody but the Orlando Magic,” Howard said when asked his thoughts on Stoudemire’s season. “I couldn’t tell you how many points he has, shot attempts. If you want to do know that, Stan (Van Gundy) has all the statistics. My focus is on our team.”

Lamar Odom and wife to have reality show

Big surprise?
 I think not!
According to E! News:

Lamar and Khloe set to take over TV now
The youngest Kardashian sister and Odom, 31, will star in a E! series reminiscent of the Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey MTV show “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica” — about their life as a couple.

“It shoots in the spring,” an insider told the celebrity magazine of the upcoming series starring the Los Angeles Lakers forward and the 26-year-old, who also appeared in “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and “Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami.

“They’re so cute, playing off one another,” another source said of the pair, who married in September 2009.

They said like "Newlyweds"...didn't that couple break up after the show?
*Not a good idea...

Allen Iverson says He Ain't Broke!

Just because he eats at TGIFridays, doesn't mean he's out of money.

Allen Iverson
Robert Huber of the Philadelphia Magazine traveled to Istanbul to see how Iverson was doing and ask him some questions that we all wanted to know the answer to:

On T.G.I. Friday’s. That’s where Iverson lands every night, for all of his first week in Istanbul.

I kid him about going to Friday’s in Istanbul, though he doesn’t seem to see it as teasing:

“Man, listen,” he says. “I didn’t know that the Philly cheesesteak wrap was that good when I was in Philly. I tried them when I got out here and every day since then. Every day since then!”

“Everybody is making a big deal out of the money and making $2 million — what do people want me to do? Sit at home and just watch basketball, or play at the YMCA? I had to do what I had to do to continue playing basketball.”

Ah, yes, two big issues there. First, whether he is broke — a guy who has pocketed some $200 million in salary and endorsements over the past 15 years. It would emerge a week or so later that Iverson- is selling some of his collected memorabilia on eBay, and a lot of people are saying he’s gambled and partied and supported hangers-on to the point of going through all that cash. But Iverson laughs softly, high up in the Besiktas stands:

“I would be a damn fool to blow that much money and have five kids to take care of. One thing I do have, and I can say, is that I do have money. A lot.”

I ask Iverson if he has a gambling problem.
“You find out when dealing with people that doesn’t have nowhere near as much money as you,” Iverson says, “that a lot of people who don’t have that money and can’t fathom it, would never understand. If I had that much to lose and I know it, then it’s not a problem for me.”

How about drinking? “Everybody I know, damn near, drinks. How is it a problem for me? I don’t remember getting any DUIs or going to jail for getting drunk in public.” Iverson laughs, because, really, are we talking about drinking? “I’ve never been reprimanded or anything, with any team or anything like that, because of any drinking.”

Iverson was candid, but seemed to come off pretty snappy.
This was good though.

*What'd you think?*

Law and Order: Nick Van Exel's Son Charged with Murder

Dallas police have arrested Nickey Maxwell Van Exel, 20, in the shooting death of Bradley Eyo.

Nickey Van Exel, mugshot
According to the Dallas Observer:
Bradley Eyo, who was killed last weekend
The day after Christmas, Bradley Eyo (Facebook) was found shot to death on Barnes Bridge Road near Lake Ray Hubbard. But Dallas homicide detective and Garland police discovered during their investigation that Eyo, whose friends have made him this tribute, had been killed elsewhere and dumped near the lake. In advance of a 3 p.m. press conference at DPD HQ today, police this afternoon released the name of the man arrested in the young Nigerian man's death: 20-year-old Nickey Maxwell Van Exel, who is indeed the son of the former Dallas Maverick, and current Atlanta Hawks player development instructor, Nick Van Exel. Nickey was arrested last night and sits in the Lew Sterrett Justice Center on a $1-million bond, charged with capital murder; curiously, someone has written on Van Exel's Wikipedia page that Nickey and Bradley were best friends.

Video: Dwight Howard Throws "Powder"

Dwight Howard mocked LeBron James during Orlando's visit to Cleveland on Tuesday night.

It was quite funny. The crowd seemed to like it. D-Howard playing into their emotions.

While near the visiting bench, Howard smiled to the crowd and mocked LeBron's famous chalk toss for fans sitting in close proximity.
No actual chalk was thrown. Fans and staff alike were not covered in white talcum.

Video: Shaq's Reaction to his $35k Fine

So, you may have heard by now that Shaquille O'Neal was fined $35,000 by the league for criticizing officials after he fouled out during Boston's Christmas Day loss to the Magic. Part of O'Neal's remarks specifically targeted referee Bob Delaney (who wears 26 on his jersey), which is obviously a guaranteed fine every single time.

"I guess they (fans) come out to see No. 26 play," O'Neal said. "He was a great player out there today. They paid all that money to see No. 26 come play. My thing is, if you're going to call it, call it the same way every time. Don't pick and choose who you are going to call it against.''

So in the lockerroom yesterday, Shaq reacted to the news:
*standy by for lol-ing*

I love how Paul Pierce is worried that he'll get fined again for his reaction. "Don't put this on Youtube."
Shaq said "All I said was 'why'!"

Former NBA Player Mike Williams Becomes Bionic

Mike Williams, 47, retired from basketball in 2000, and since had been working as a bodyguard and security guard. An unfortunate sequence of events transpired when he was working security inside a suburban Atlanta nightclub. A gunfight broke out and he was shot four times, in the jaw and shoulder.

That left him paralyzed.

Well, read how the encounter of an old high school teammate is going to change his life. MSNBC.com has the story.

From the website theybf.com, Matt Barnes' folks sent them a statement denying that he knows the prostitute named Candy Deep Throat.
(The prostitute went on Twitter claiming she was the one who broke up his engagement. Story)

Matt, of course, replied back on Twitter. But in a more official statement to the website The YBF, his people sent this:

“Matt Barnes does not know this so-called prostitute named ‘Candy’. All her allegations are false. She is personally attacking Barnes to gain fame and popularity.”

Also, Gloria and Matt went on KTLA to promote the "Basketball Wives" show they are on:

Love: Gilbert Arenas Abandons Pregnant Fiance' and Their 3 Kids

After getting traded to the Orlando Magic, Gilbert apparently picked up and left with even saying goodbye. He left his mansion in VA and hit the road to Florida. Laura's rep (now she's repped by the same person as her "Basketball Wives" star sister Gloria Govan and Matt Barnes) says Gilbert has not spoken to Laura or the kids since Thanksgiving and has been avoiding doing so. And he has cut off all money to them. Even though Laura is several months along in her fourth pregnancy.
Laura Govan and child

The Washington Post reports:

Govan, who is four months pregnant with their fourth child, "has not heard from Arenas the whole month of December," said publicist Laura Wright in an e-mailed statement. "Govan and the children feel like they have been abandoned."
Wright - who has worked for Govan's sister Gloria and her fiance, Los Angeles Lakers forward Matt Barnes - said that Govan was left at their Great Falls home "with no money to purchase food or Christmas gifts."
The breakup happened around Thanksgiving. Though he didn't reveal a relationship rift at the time, Arenas recently told reporters he had been staying with Wizards teammate Nick Young for about a month.
Govan hugs Arenas child
*But wait* There's more!
After his first game with the Magic a few days ago, Gilbert made it very public that he was moving on from his old life in D.C.

He told The Post after his Dec. 20 debut with the Magic that he was so eager to move that he bought a same-day ticket to Florida the minute he'd heard about the trade: "I went to the airport and left. I didn't have a chance to say bye to anybody. I didn't even say bye to the kids." (But Arenas also said that Washington would remain "in my heart" because "that's where I raised my kids and have my family.")

*Sigh* We'll keep you posted.

Josh McRoberts Wants In The Dunk Contest

Josh McRoberts overall numbers are up across his stat line this season including starting all 26 games but he wants to dunk...in the dunk contest. He's getting a little help from teammate Brandon Rush as they've launched a campaign with a retro feel to get. The two have filmed a video of a scene from "White Men Can't Jump". Now any basketball fan has seen this movie and for McRoberts and Rush to use this as a part of the campaign somehow seems fitting.

"I grew up watching the dunk contest. Now I want my part in it," McRoberts said. "It'll be fun being in it if it happens."

Let the man dunk, heck he actually wants to and of the top who was the last white man in the dunk contest...Brent Barry?

Steve Francis Leaves Chinese Team and Gives the Middle Finger

That was quick.
Two weeks...that's long enough!

After his NBA career and level of play spiraled downward, Francis signed with the Beijing Shougang Ducks of the Chinese Basketball Association on Dec. 14. Francis, who played with the NBA's Rockets, Knicks and Magic, a previous three-time All-Star, couldn't last more than two weeks abroad.

Steve Francis

A day after Christmas, Francis and the Ducks have apparently decided to part ways, according to NiuBBall. The report said that the breakup was mutual.

The former NBA first-teamer signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Ducks. But apparently "Stevie Franchise" acted like a jerk.

He butted heads with Ducks head coach Min Lulei over his lack of playing time. Francis skipped a Saturday practice and then left the bench at halftime of Sunday's game and did not return.

That was nothing compared to what he did on the court. In his first couple of games , the 33-year old Francis, acted like, well, a guy who was at the tail end of a disappointing career and bitter about it.

Ron Artest Announced the Winner of his Championship Ring Auction

Ron Artest has absolutely no regrets about giving away his Los Angeles Lakers championship ring to boost mental health awareness. In fact, it just encourages him to go out and get another ring.

Artest announced the winner of the charity raffle for his ring late Saturday night at a club across the street from Staples Center, where the Lakers were trounced by the Miami Heat 96-80 in the NBA's Christmas showcase.
Ron's ring

The ring was won by Raymond Mikkael, a father of four from Hawthorne, CA.

"It's a good feeling, because it got a lot of publicity, and that's cool," Artest said before taking on LeBron James. "I'm glad we can start over now and do some more work with charities."
Artest came up with the idea to give away his first NBA title ring after putting a spotlight on mental health by thanking his psychiatrist after Game 7 of the Lakers' triumph over Boston last June. While some laughed at another stunt by one of the NBA's biggest characters, Artest's candid declaration sparked an interest in normalizing mental health care, which snowballed into this unique charitable gift.

He raised over $500,000!

Fight: Andray Blatche + JaVale McGee Get Down in the Club

All weekend long speculations were about the two Wizard's throwing blows at each other.

The Washington Post reported that several witnesses saw Blatche and McGee shouting obscenities at each other outside of the Shadow Room in Northwest Washington, and two league sources told the Post that the two also exchanged punches inside the club.

McGee and Blatche

Well the hammer came down when the team suspended the boys for conduct detrimental to the team.
"After further investigation into an incident on Thursday night, we concluded that Andray and JaVale conducted themselves in an unprofessional manner," Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld said.

Business Insider got their hands on the presentation given to potential sponsors for LeBron James's big birthday bash in Miami next week. The event will be "royal themed fitting for a birthday celebration of a king."

What do sponsors get, for their minimum $10,000? Hard to tell through all the corporate buzzwords, but I'm pretty sure your logo gets put up around the party, and your shit gets given away in goody bags. This is totally worth it for Dan Gilbert, right?

News: OJ Mayo's Father Charged With Trying to Kill Police Officer

Kenneth Ziegler, the father of Memphis Grizzlies guard O.J. Mayo, was arrested in West Virginia early Thursday morning after driving his vehicle into a police officer, resulting in a brief chase until his car was disabled with spike strips. He's being charged with attempted murder, two drug counts, obstruction and two fleeing counts.

OJ Mayo

NBA.com reports:

Two officers were searching for someone else at about 3:30 a.m. when they saw 39-year-old Kenneth Maurice Ziegler of Huntington in a vehicle trying to hide, police said. When they confronted him, he put the vehicle into gear, drove into one of the officers and dragged him, they said.
Police chased the vehicle for several miles through a Huntington neighborhood before disabling it with spike strips. Ziegler was captured after a short foot chase and charged with attempted murder, two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, obstructing, fleeing in a vehicle and fleeing on foot, police said.
According to police, about 85 grams of marijuana and several chunks of crack cocaine were found in the vehicle.
Ziegler was being held Thursday at the Western Regional Jail. Police say there also are outstanding warrants charging him with fleeing, driving on a suspended license and burglary.
Huntington attorney Jason Goad, who is representing Ziegler, declined to comment.
