Bike Riding With LeBron

There are plenty of things that get you ready to compete in an athletic event of any sort. well Lebron chose to show his human side by biking to the Heat's game against the Bulls.

The biking must have paid off in full as LeBron played his usual A-game and then elevated clearly over the Bulls John Lucas III for what we thought would be a dunk that would be talked about for weeks until... well you know how Kendrick Perkins feels.

So why did LBJ bike to the game? He told Chris Tomasson of Fox Sports...

"The traffic," James said to the media after scoring a game-high 35 points in the 97-93 win over the Bulls. "You guys drove here? You guys are crazy."

So this had to be a first for the King right, well not so much but ...

"It's not common," he said. "A few (times). I felt good (Sunday) morning."

Biking does help you get your legs.

Blake Griffin's Monster Dunk

Blake Griffin
SportsCenter's Top Tens often feature dunks.  People complain about how annoying it is having to see dunk after dunk on the Top Ten list when they are never really that impressive.

This dunk is that impressive

Blake Griffin looks like he's ready to spit fire after he's done embarrassing Perkins. When he breaks free of one of his teammates he looks like the Hulk about ready to rip off his jersey.

The Game Aint' The Same...

As you can see from watching the NBA so far this year, it is NOT the same. No training camp, barely any pre-season, probably some of the reasons for a slow start. Overall the league’s three point field goal shooting and points per game is down over 6%. Some teams aren’t meshing as well as everybody thought they would; Knicks (7-13, lost 9 of last 10), Lakers (12-9 and 2-7 on the road) and the Celtics (9-10). We knew the Thunder (16-4), Heat (16-5), Bulls (18-5) would be the top teams. Not many would have thought the 76ers (15-6 and lead the NBA in point differential), Pacers (13-6), and Nuggets (14-6 and 8-2 in their last 10 games) would be such solid teams. So what’s the real reason the league has started slow, I think I know that answer.

From my sources, there is RAMPID DRUG USE IN THE NBA THIS YEAR, most notably marijuana and prescription pills. When the CBA was ratified, there was a whole new bargaining agreement set in place as we know. Previously, the NBA did not drug test players during its July-September off-season. Most players did not get tested no more than four times throughout an entire year, and no tests could be given at the arena on the night of the game. Beginning in the 2012-2013 season, players can be tested up to two times during the off-season for steroids and performance-enhancing drugs only. They would NOT be screened for drugs such as marijuana. So what were players doing from last season up until now? From my sources there have been no testing since. February 9th is the day we hear when mandatory testing for all NBA players will begin.

Let’s be fair, some players are obviously out of shape early on, this is understandable. A quarter of this shortened season has already passed. Are some players taking advantage of this lack of testing? Since the players know the February 9 date is coming, many believe the game will start to pick up now. It all makes sense, I am not saying this is the SOLE reason the league looks a little sluggish and a lot of bad basketball is being played. Through the years we have heard countless stories of NBA players caught with weed. Let’s be real, it’s part of this generation, white-black, rich-poor. There is no way to go around that. Bottom line: the league should get better, players conditioning will improve, and teams should start meshing. Knowing what we know now just opens the mind up to another theory, another side to the lackluster play and out of shape players.

The NBA is the product of the times, like the hip-hop group 3rd Bass said back in the day, “We’re a product of the environment.” Stuck in a mindset that allows players to do whatever they want at any time.

Carlos Boozer's Son Roots Against Bulls

Bulls-Heat. We are sure that nearly everyone had their calendars circled for January 29th, the first meeting between these two “rival” teams (the quotations will be removed once things become more heated up. It’s not quite there yet.).

Can Carlos Boozer’s son make a case to liven up the rivalry? His family lives in Miami and was in attendance for the game yesterday. The Boozer crew got a nice shot during ABC’s coverage, but it was at the wrong time. He may love his dad, but his heart may be set on someone else.

The funny part about all this is that there were other Boozer family members wearing Bulls jerseys…rooting for the Heat. In any case, Mr. Boozer might have had a talk with the young ones after the game, hoping to not get their signals crossed.

KG's "Barfight" Interview Is Classic

Kevin Garnett has more passion, drive and intensity than many NBA players during his era. Well KG let it spew again during an interview after the Celtic's 27-point come-from-behind victory over the Magic...

Barfight? Well the first thing we tought of was a good ole barfight at The Boars Nest in Hazzard County. Those broke out all the time.

Oh and before we forget, Congradulations to Ray Allen also on the birth of his new baby. KG touched that as well.

Congrats to the Champs and were glad Mark Cuban decided to go with the rings even though he's not a big fan of jewlery.

LeBron Returning to the Cavs? Fact or Fiction

A rumor started recently and Sam Amico from FoxSports.com says:

Now, there is talk that James is less-than-thrilled with certain aspects of the Heat organization. ... James can opt out of his contract at the end of the 2013-14 season, and speculation is he will strongly consider it if Riley remains in his current role. And the team James would be eyeballing most in free agency, say those close to the situation, would be the Cavs.
LeBron as a Cav again? Seriously? Probabaly not.

It is possible that Amico just wants some attention, but ESPN's Brian Windhorst knows LeBron best and says that he could finish his career there.

"Maybe one day LeBron and Cleveland can bury the hatchet and James can ride into the sunset as a Cav?"

Considering how much love Lebron gets from the Cleveland fans, some of the Cav's employees and the Cav's owner, that chance is highly unlikely. Unless of course they want to hit him with the "okey-doke" and make him think they are over it, only to torment him personally every night.

Superman Hits Milestone with the Magic

During Tuesday's Magic vs Pacers game, with 14 points for the night, Dwight Howard became the all-time leading scorer for the Orlando Magic.
Superman has the Magic

Going into the game, Dwight only needed 8 points to beat the record formerly set by Nick Anderson.

"It's a humbling experience," said Howard, "It does mean a lot. Not too many players in this league can say that they were their franchise's leading scorer."

Did Jeff Ament Speak Truth About Kareem?

Remember the 1990’s when it was a good time to be alive? Cable was taking off tremendously, and MTV became one of the biggest channels ever known. During that era, the network released its annual “Rock n’ Jock” sports special, in which musicians, actors, and other entertainers played along with superstar athletes. It started out with softball, but quickly grew into basketball which became a big hit.

Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament was very excited to work alongside Kareem Abdul Jabbar in 1994 while he was the main man for the Violators squad. Apparently, Kareem rubbed Ament the wrong way. As any musician would do, he let out his anger by writing a song called “Sweet Lew”, smiting Kareem about his lost cause of building hotel chains for tall people:

I grew up trying to copy you, Bruce Lee, and a kung-fu

Act a jazzman, yogi too

Little did i know, a loose screw

But you had your own shoe

Build him high, build him tall, a taiku with a basketball

Tear 'em down, one and all

7'2" is a long way to fall

Sweet lew, how's the view?

Sweet lew, how could you?

It sounds like an urban legend, but Brian Cronin of Sports Legend Revealed had something to say in this Los Angeles Times article released Wednesday:

During the early 1980s, Collins formed an investment group called All-Pro Enterprises Inc. with Abdul-Jabbar the most famous name involved, but also including such famous NBA Players as Ralph Sampson, Terry Cummings and Alex English (among others). The group spent most of its money on real estate. They bought the Balboa Inn in Los Angeles for $4.2 million, the Inn of Laguna in Los Angeles for $4 million, the Belmont Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama (I am unsure how much it cost), a $1.4 million Newport Beach restaurant and a $22 million Los Angeles health club. Here, by the way, is where the "building hotels for tall people" came into being. Presumably as part of the deal when they purchased the Balboa Inn (but possibly it was something done even before the group bought the hotel), one of the suites in the hotel was built especially for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, complete with nine-foot high doors.

It seems like Kareem really needed that Cultural Ambassador job after all.

Video: Basketball A Work Of Art

There are plenty of things that the game of basketball can do for everyone. Even if one does not have the talent to play the game of basketball at the highest level, basketball still finds a way to showcase the talents of others.

So if you going to an art museum enjoy the fine collection of artwork. And the next time you dribble a basketball think about the artwork it really can produce.

Enjoy how Yao Ming is brought to life...

Defensive Stallworth Bowen, Will Be Honored By Spurs

He's won three NBA Championships (2003, 2005 and 2007) and did it mainly for what many called "dirty" play. Bruce Bowen was a defender, an up in your face one at that. When he wasn't sticking to you like glue he was nailing three-pointers from deep in either corner, crushing opponents hopes of prevailing with a win and doing his part to bring home a title for his team.

Well in doing that, Bruce Bowen's No.12 jersey will be retired. Bowen will be the seventh member of the San Antonio Spurs franchise to have their number retired joining, Johnny Moore (No.00), Avery Johnson (No.6), James Silas (No.13), Sean Elliott (No.32), George "Iceman" Gervin (No.44) and David "The Admiral" Robinson (No.50).

“Bruce was more of those steady factors, where he did the same thing night in and night out, whether it was a preseason game or a championship game,” coach Gregg Popovich told Jeff McDonald. “That’s just who he was. We gave him that role, and he lived it and breathed it.”

Well for all that "dirty" play and jewelry, it must be an honor to know that everything you gave a franchise no one will ever wear your number again, at least without permission. Must be a humbling feeling. And oh how we cannot forget those Bruce Bowen bow ties, will those be retired as well, we don't think so. It fits him, stands out like his trademark defensive game.

It's always an adventure for a shooter when he is drectly infront of the opposing teams bench. Danny Green learned that first hand in Orlando. Kobe and Vanessa Settle Assets, $75 Million in Total

With all the success Kobe Bryant has had recently on the court, the situation with his divorce has been put off radar. Today, the inevitable has happened with he and Vanessa Bryant with their divorce settlement.

TMZ has reported that Vanessa Bryant will be collecting half of Kobe’s earnings (totaling $75 million in assets), and includes all three of Kobe’s mansions in the Newport Beach area. What hurts the most is the house that Kobe was having built now belongs to Vanessa.

In case anyone was curious, it seems as if Vanessa may have had this idea brewed up long ago. TMZ also reported a few weeks ago about how Vanessa’s mother did the same motive to her then ex-husband:

TMZ spoke with Stephen Laine -- an inventory manager for a food company who was married to Vanessa's mother from 1990 to 2003 ... and helped raise Vanessa from a child into adulthood.

Laine tells us, "Her mother taught her well to wait for the ten-year mark [before divorcing]."

He explains, "In California ... it's considered a long term marriage and then she gets paid for life or until she remarries ... just like her mother is doing to me."

Laine continues, "I have to pay her mom $1,800 every month and clearly they don’t need it."

Sources close to Vanessa tell us ... Kobe's soon-to-be ex-mother-in-law is currentlyliving in one of the BBaller's mansions ... and we're told Vanessa is very good to her.

Laine gripes, "I have a six-year-old daughter and that money could be used toward her college fund or something ... you'd think she'd care ... but no, she's spiteful."

By the way everyone, Kobe has a game tonight against Orlando. Let’s hope this doesn’t affect him too much.

More on D.Wade's 30th Birthday

As if the big party wasn't enough, Dwyane also gets a gift. Who gave him this gift and what was it?

D.Wade and his McLaren.
Well, a local car dealership decided to give the hoop star a  McLaren MP4-12C. If you're like me, you don't know what that is so here's a picture to show you.

This "gift" is valued at nearly a quarter of a million dollars. Only the rich and famous get free stuff that they can actually afford.

A gift this large and extravagant couldn't have come in through the front door obviously. The dealership had to bring this car in by crane.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar's New Role

From the all-time leading scorer to writing a New York Times Bestseller, Kareem Abdul Jabbar can say he has now done it all has now done it all.

Wendesday, Kareem met with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to discuss his new role as a Cultural Ambassador for the United States. Already a worldwide figure, it’s the perfect role for one of the NBA’s greatest, and already he is going to have his work cut out for him. From the US Department of State:

During the meeting, Secretary Clinton reiterated the United States’ strong commitment to engaging young people worldwide and to using people-to-people diplomacy as a means to create opportunities for greater understanding.

Secretary Clinton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar discussed his upcoming trip to Brazil as a Cultural Ambassador and the strong relationship between the people of the United States and Brazil.

“I am excited and honored to serve my country as a Cultural Ambassador for the U.S. Department of State,” said Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who has focused his efforts after his NBA career on engaging youth through socially-minded projects and education. “I look forward to meeting with young people all over the world and discussing ways in which we can strengthen our understanding of one another through education, through sports, and through greater cultural tolerance.”

From January 22-28, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will travel to Brazil to meet with underserved youth in Salvador and Rio de Janeiro. As a Cultural Ambassador, Abdul-Jabbar will lead conversations with young people on the importance of education, social and racial tolerance, cultural understanding, and using sports as a means of empowerment. In addition, he will participate in basketball clinics with young people in both cities.

This is truly a worthy accomplishment for a man who has earned his role.

Inside the Detroit Pistons Locker Room

Buckingham Palace

OK so maybe Buckingham Palace is a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much. They have leather seats in front of their lockers.  A bench shared with other players won't do for the Pistons, no, they need individual leather seats! Blue and pink lights light the hallways as they enter the locker room and their players lounge looks like it belongs in New York's meat packing district.

Does anyone else find it a little ironic that the city of Detroit calls their arena the "Palace." I mean half the population there can't pay their mortgages and have to live off unemployment, but if they can scrape up enough money to go to a Pistons game then they get to hang out in a "Palace."

With a pimped out locker room the Pistons are still only 3-10, so those state of the art hot/cold tubs don't seem to be working out all that well.

Chuck Hayes To Get Video Tribute In Houston Tonight

What comes to mind when you hear the name Chuck Hayes?

There really isn't a whole lot you can say about the guy, except aside from the stats, you know he is the kind of player that will give it your all on the floor every minute he plays. He also had a lot of weight to carry in replace for the injured (and now retired) Yao Ming, who stands an entire foot taller than Hayes. He only averaged just over four points and five rebounds a game as well.

It's just enough to give the man a video tribute.

Hayes played just six seasons with the Rockets, and is noted to be the shortest center in the NBA standing at 6-6. The Rockets after the 2010-2011 season were in the works of getting Pau Gasol from Los Angeles before things fell through, but eventually Hayes took off to Sacramento as a free agent. Hayes won't play tonight since he is out because of a shoulder injury. From the Houston Chronicle:

Sometime late in the first quarter tonight, with Hall of Famers, Moses Malone, Calvin Murphy and Elvin Hayes, in the building, the Rockets will spend a time out paying tribute to the shortest starting center in NBA history, a player that went undrafted and was cut in his first training camp in the NBA.

It will be a fitting honor for Chuck Hayes, who earned everything that came his way, especially respect.

“I don’t know how I’m going to react,” Hayes said. “My son asked, ‘Are they going to boo you?’ I don’t know. It’s going to be weird. This city was great to me. This organization was great for me. I thank them. I really do consider Houston home. Will I get teared up? I don’t know.

“Personally, it’s just overwhelming. It’s overwhelming the opportunity that was given to me. I’m thankful to the Sacramento Kings. I think about the journey it took to get to this point, to be a vet on a team, to be financially stable, to be a model in the league of being a glue guy.”

It's very rare for a man like Chuck to get such recognition who hasn't really achieved a whole lot except for filling in shoes. Either way, it will surely be an unusual, yet very emotional moment for the Chuckster tonight at the Toyota Center.

Kris Humphries didn't like the way Kim treated her family

Only 1/2 true
In the least shocking news of the New Year, it turns out Kim Kardashian is a diva and rude to her family.  Who knew?

According to "sources" Kris Humphries couldn't stand the way Kim spoke to her family.  Since he's such an incredible gentleman with Emily Post style manners, who better to throw stones?  From the little amount of their show that I've seen (and trust me, I wish I would have seen even less) it appears that Kim Kardashian is somewhat of a jerk.  Calling her younger sister a "troll" who's only jealous of her and then demanding all sorts of lame things from her equally detestable mother.  I didn't need any of Kris Humphries' "sources" to let me know that her awful behavior on and off the cameras could have been a factor in the demise of her marriage.

That's not to say Kris Humphries deserves any credit for being a stand-up human being.  He comes off as a homophobic asshole who doesn't care about anyones happiness but his own.  Every involved in this entire saga is a monster and I can't believe I'm still talking about them.  It's a sickness.

Fans sit on Mavs bench and enjoy their drinks

During Tuesday nights Dallas-Detroit game two fans were seated in what is considered "VIP" seats located almost directly on the Mavericks bench.  During the broadcast it looked as though two crazy fans (they weren't helping with those outfits) just decided to plop themselves down next to Delonte West and Vince Carter.

The two fans turned out to be some "fashion" designer  named Aaron Cohen and his best friend.  They actually paid money for those seats because as Cohen put it in an interview after the game he wanted "the best seats in the arena."

Um, no way those are the best seats in the whole arena.  Anytime the play moves to the opposite end of the court (and considering it's basketball, every 10 seconds) you completely lose sight of the action.  You can't even look at the jumbo-tron without risk of neck spasms.

Fail.

Kobe and His Hatred Towards Phoenix

It was 2006. The Phoenix Suns, loaded with Steve Nash, Amar'e Stoudemire, Boris Diaw and co. gave the Los Angeles Lakers a run for their money as the team from the City of Angels led the series 3-1 in the Western Conference Quarterfinals. The Suns them clothes-lined them (and Kobe Bryant) and not only won the next three games, they annihilated them in game 7 to win the series 4-3. The Suns faced them again in 2007 and took care of them 4-1 in the quarterfinals. The Lakers eventually got their "revenge" in 2010, and with the help of Metta World Peace (formerly Ron Artest), the Lakers went on to win the Western Conference crown against Phoenix and took down their arch rival Boston Celtics in seven. The Suns roster has been gutted out over the last year, and only Steve Nash remains from the 2007 roster, and to make things sweeter for Los Angeles, they have only one once at Staples Center since early 2008 when former Laker Kwame Brown nearly single-handed them a victory and was booed off by the hometown fans for it.

Even though the Suns are not what they used to be, Kobe doesn't care. The bitter taste in his mouth will always remain.

From espn.com:

Kobe keeps saying how much he hates the Phoenix Suns.

But there’s almost nothing left from the Suns teams that knocked the Lakers out of the first round of the playoffs in 2006 and 2007. The coach is gone, the general manager is gone, every other player is gone ... there’s even a different guy doing tricks in the gorilla suit. The only one who remains is Steve Nash. The same Steve Nash who won the Most Valuable Player award over Bryant in 2005 and 2006.

So really, whom else is Kobe supposed to hate? Channing Frye? Hakim Warrick? He sure doesn’t hate Shannon Brown, his former teammate whom he embraced in a tight hug right after the buzzer sounded.

It’s gotta be Nash.

Those 48 points Kobe scored during the Lakers’ 99-83 victory were his most since he scored since March 22, 2011 -- against the Phoenix Suns. *And as Dave McMenamin pointed out, the last time Kobe scored more than 48 was when he put up 49 on March 1, 2009 -- against the Phoenix Suns. This can’t be a coincidence. Kobe is too cold and calculating for this to be coincidence.

“I don’t like them,” Bryant said of the Suns. “Plain and simple, I do not like them. They used to whip us pretty good and used to let us know about it, and I. Will. Not. Forget. That.”

Even though most of the guys from that team are gone?

“I. Don’t. Care,” Bryant said. “I won’t let it go.”

I did attend the game last night (as a Phoenix Suns fan), and I too am a little bit confused by all this. There were very few Suns fans in attendance, and I was left alone when I cheered on my team. Every basket Nash scored, I yelled. Every three Channing Fry hit, I let the crowd know who made it. In response, I got nothing from the stands.

This has definitely got to be a personal thing.

Photo: Nets Can't Catch a Break

Not many things are going well for the Nets these days. Aside from the 2-8 record, some Nets find it hard to even dunk the ball without it being a bad thing. Just ask Sheldon Williams.

What do you guys think - tough being a part of the Nets now-a-days isn't it?

Photo: Typo on B. Davis' Injury Update

In a recent injury update about some current Knicks, there was a major typo involved. Newly acquired Baron Davis is sitting out with a herniated disk, not what is written in the above article.

Always got to check your spelling before publishing, right?

Champions Make White House Visit

Even without a game scheduled in DC against the winless Wizards, the Mavs still got their visit to the White House in to celebrate their 2011 NBA Championship.

The Big German and Obama pose as they hold up Obama's No. 23 Mavs jersey.

Obama checks out the threads of the Mavs jersey with his names on it and the No. 23.

Now all Obama needs is the Bulls to win it this year while he's still in office. Now that would be something nice to see.
