Charity Basketball from The Players?

Hurricane Katrina hit hard in 2005. The Hornets were not going to be able to play in the big easy. People were without homes and the necessities of everyday life. Isn't basketball a necessity? Well depend son who you ask but Kenny Smith decided that a basketball game would be a way to help ease the pain, you know bighten up the mood. So he held a charity hurricane relief game in Houston and it was a fine success.

Well the Players union may be looking at that option with the pending lockout looming if the business is not handled. Union president Derek Fisher did speak on the matter.

From NBA.com's Scott Howard-Cooper

“I’d say it’s possible right now,” the Lakers guard said after Wednesday night’s game at Oracle Arena. “We’re so focused on trying not to be in that situation, so it’s tough to go into full-scale planning on those types of situations. But at the same time, we have a responsibility as a union and as an association to really keep options that are viable open for our guys.
“There’s so many challenges logistically, in terms of where you play, having the arenas, having officials, security – all the things that a lot of times we don’t have to deal with because the league is doing those things. But we looked into it before, we’ve looked into it a little bit now. Until we see that it’s something that we’re really going to have to look forward to doing, right now, it’s still just kind of floating out there.”
Most signs point to the lockout beginning July 1 and damaging at least a large portion of offseason business. Fisher said the NBPA will be “trying to continue to create ideas and situations and opportunities where we can really keep our players out there in terms of being in the community, being visible, letting people know that guys would want to continue to play.”

No pay for the players and it's charity so how will the game be played, well with less intensity. How about with that old backyard style with a professional touch. The players want to show the fans they still want to play, this is the time to show that you do play for the love of the game and BASKETBALL fans. Until the business is handled that will do, pick up runs with NBA players over 48 minutes, yea we'd watch that.

Hair Care Endorsement for Carmello Anthony

Who doesn't love hanging out in the barber shop? You can be there hours after your cut just shooting the breeze with the fellas. Everybody is in there to get clean and it's more than just a haircut. Now you can hear that old guy in the back yelling to a youngster "You better get some of that Carmello in your head". Yep Carmello is now linked to every barber shop.

Johnson Products Company has brought on it's first celebrity endorsement signing Carmello Anthony to a multi year endorsement deal. During the Fall of 2010 Johnson introduced it's Ultra Sheen Men's Brand grooming line, this is where Melo's speciality will be.

Johnson Products Company issued this press release...

The Ultra Sheen® Men™ grooming collection is targeted to the trendsetting man who has style and swagger. Today, no one better exudes the “trendsetting man” than NBA All-Star, Carmelo Anthony, who has signed on to lend his voice and celebrity to the Ultra Sheen® Men™ line.

“We are very excited to leverage the strong position in the ethnic hair care space that Johnson Products has to launch our new men’s line. Our team sees a lot of opportunity and growth in the men’s sector which doesn’t typically get a lot of attention,” explained JPC CEO, Eric Brown. “Adding Carmelo Anthony to the Johnson Products Family as well as having him represent the Ultra Sheen® Men™ brand to the community will certainly bring excitement to our new brand.”

Carmello had this to say...

“I am very excited about joining the team at Johnson Products Company. I have fond memories of Ultra Sheen® products from my childhood days and they have such a long-standing and rich reputation that it was very easy for me to agree to be a part of this new effort,” said Carmelo Anthony. “Being a part of the Ultra Sheen® Men™ launch and influencing young men to ‘Step Up Their Game’ in every aspect of their lives is truly what I am all about.”

All In The Neighborhood

So the big business move made in the NBA involving Carmelo Anthony relocating to the Big Apple may have a trickle down effect on the real estate business.

According to TMZ LaLa Vasquez Anthony and Kim Kardashian are out house hunting in the Jersey area. Aren't you so surprised? Ha! Celebs hang with celebs so no surprise to us but to see how it may happen (since WAGS hold all the power) is well, fun.

Alpine, New Jersey is were this hunting has been taking place and it seems as though the Anthony's don't want their son in the Manhattan area. Kim K is keeping her left coast home for the offseason but being close to Kris next season is vital. Hey the WAGS like to get together and have fun also and not make a big deal about it.

When the leases are signed we'll let you know.

So yea busy is the correct adjective to fit their schedule.

The couple celebrated the launch of Unbreakable in Hollywood at the Redbury Hotel...

NBA-FP TV Weekly 4/5/2011

Were talking Ron Artest in a positve light, Rookie Abandonment, hanging out in Vegas, stealing and delievring the mail and driving cars through the street. All of that and a cameo from producer Joel on this weeks NBA-FP TV TRT 4:04

Citizenship Award Nominees Include Ron Artest

Ron Artest is getting some press for in a positive manner recently. He donated his championship ring to charity, he's raising awareness for mental health and he's rapping. Well the latter is what he does to have fun but he's been serious about his efforts this season and others are taking notice. Still this is an honor that Artest has to be proud of even if he doesn't win it. We still think he's crazy but hey who doesn't have a lil' crazy in them?

Artest was nominated along with...

Marcus Camby...

Dwight Howard...

and Kyle Krover...

...for the 2011 J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award. Really would you have ever though Artest would be up for this award in his career, especially after that December day in 2004 when all hell broke out at the Palace in Auburn Hills, MI which was later dubbed "The Malice in the Palace".

Way to go Ron, next thing you know he'll be up for the Joe Dumars Sportsmanship Award and that will bring the irony full circle.

Allen Iverson's fancy car impounded in Atlanta

We are disappointed that Allen Iverson isn't playing in the NBA anymore. (We're crossing our fingers that him being black listed will be lifted by next season.)

But the bad press from the weekend...may not help.

TMZ reports that Iverson was a passenger in 2009 silver lambo when the cops pulled the car over. The Atlanta PD snatched the vehicle and gave the "Answer" a ticket.

Iverson's car getting searched...nothing found but expired tags.

No worries, "The Answer" wasn't on the street for very long. The gossip website reports that his buddies cruised by in an even sweeter Rolls Royce to pick up the 35-year-old, 11 time All-Star, which goes to show that even when Iverson's caught "riding dirty," he always has a backup plan.

Carmelo Anthony on SNL

Your favorite new Knick, Carmelo Anthony, made his debut on Saturday Night Live this weekend.

Melo on SNL
With Elton John hosting, ‘Melo joined Tom Hanks in making a cameo on the recurring digital short Laser Cats.

*So what do you think?!

Detroit thanks Dennis Rodman; jersey retired

Prior to an emotional ceremony at which the Detroit Pistons retired his No. 10, Dennis Rodman let it slip that he's going to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. The arena played Europe's "Final Countdown" by way of player introduction. Isiah Thomas et al were on hand. Rodman said he was surprised by the honor.

Dennis Rodman gets his jersey retired.

"I was just so excited to be in the NBA, and to be a part of a team that was more than just a team, it was a family. I saw these guys when they first came and they put their families second, which they shouldn't. But they put their families second because Isiah [Thomas] wanted it so much, Joe [Dumars] wanted it so much. Bill Laimbeer, Vinnie Johnson."

Spotted: Michael Jordan Hangin' with Drew Brees

While his Bobcats were suffering a near playoff death defeat in the Magic Kingdom last Friday, Michael Jordan was kicking it in Vegas at the Aria Resort and Casino. He took a moment with New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Wonder if the word "lockout" came up if even for a brief moment? Jordan is joined by his girlfriend Yvette Prieto.

Hey that's Penny, Penny Hardaway. Ok he's grown so it's Anfernee Hardaway with Dondre Whitfield at the event as well. When is it never a good time to be in Vegas?

Video: Kobe Whippin' A Smart Barbus Commercial

Ok so I really stopped and looked at one of those Smart Cars/Barbus' the other day, you know when you really stare and gaze, the one that has the driver behind blowing at you cause the light is green type of stares. Well I came to the conclusion that the damn car really is that small. It makes an old school VW Beetle look like a family SUV, really it's a street legal Power Wheels.

Kobe Bryant is a wheelmen but in a Smart car? He has to take the front seat out and sit in the back to be comfy while driving, wait does it have a backseat? Anyway checkout the commercial it's pretty cool.

Nice, we even got a Kobe assist thrown in there! Wonder how Midget from New Jack City would have whipped this ride?
