Last week Danny Ainge said he would break up the Big 3 if he could get a younger dynamic roster. Obviously you can't compare Pierce, Allen, and Garnett to the dynasty Bird, McHale, and Parrish had, but its been a great ride. The year before the Celtics acquired the Big 3 they had the second worst record in the league.
Celtics have to be careful not to repeat what they did with the Big 3 of old. Celtics management refused to trade Bird, McHale, or Parrish late in their career. Celtics ended up not making the playoffs in seven out of eight seasons.
If the right trade comes into Ainge's hands does he make a move or does he stay loyal to the guys that won a championship for him? Tough call, we shall see by the March 15th trade deadline. Sources say Ainge is looking to make a blockbuster move, knowing this team is at the end of the road. No empire lasts forever!
