Live from Los Angeles...It's "The Blake Griffin Show"

Fresh off his rim-rattling rookie season Blake Griffin became only the third unnamoius winner of the Rookie of the Year award in NBA History. He's not going to Disney World or Disneyland for that matter but he is going to host his own show titled "The Blake Show".

How did all of this come about? Well Nike decided to celebrate the accomplishment by making "The Blake Show" possible. Tonights show will be held at the Nike Vault in Los Angeles on South Figgueroa Street at 6:30pm PST.

"The Blake Show" will be a satirical play on late-night TV (think Leno, Conan, Letterman and others) and will co-star Andy Richter. There will be a discussion on Blake's freshmen year in the association as well as a Q&A with the crowd, photo ops and giveaways. So if your in the Los Angeles area swing by. Oh you should know that their will be limited seating available so leave work NOW, you know how traffic is!

Sometimes doing things on accident or to honor one leads to bigger things. There are no plans for a second show but with a good turnout and a couple of witty soundbites the thing could take off like Blake Griffin on a fastbreak, with a Knick defender in the way.

LeBron's Entourage Too Much?

Lebron James has had a healthy deal with Nike since before that debut night in Sacramento. Since that time her had of of Nike's top flight shoe designers on his team, up until sometime up in 2008. Well this designer, Tinker Hatfield, had had enough and while making an appearance in Miami he spoke about it.

According to the Heat Index via Brian Windhorst...

Well how should we take this? Most times players and their entourage's are in the news for bad press that hurt the athlete. With this coming on the heels of Lebron's crew not being allowed in the "Q" on their latest trip to Cleveland could this be another sign albeit a subtle sign that the "boys" are "in the way". To be fair we can't say that LeBron's crew has caused much bad press compared to those we've come to know throughout the history of sports.

Here's the video: the LeBron comments are at 6:10ish

“I don’t like working with LeBron’s entourage,” Hatfield said. “It’s too many people, too many ideas, too many opinions.”

It is the second time in the last six months Hatfield has publicly taken a shot at James various friends and managers. During a similar event last October in Santa Monica, Calif., Hatfield told a group of listeners at a shoe store that “I used to work on LeBron’s, until his entourage kind of pissed me off.”

Hatfield was the main designer on the first generations of James’ shoes, starting in 2003. But according to sources, in 2008 he stopped working with him to focus working on Kobe Bryant’s shoes and the Jordan Brand. In the meantime, Hatfield said last week that James’ products have “suffered a little bit” and “hasn’t done as well as the Kobe stuff.”

“[Working with Bryant] one guy comes into the room with him and he has ideas and is very forward thinking and is smart about what he needs to do, what he thinks he needs to do to be a better player,” Hatfield said last week.

“LeBron is a great guy, I really like him, but when he comes into the room and he’s got like eight other guys saying things. That is one reason why the LeBron stuff, even though it does OK, it isn’t quite as exciting to me as the Kobe stuff or what we’ve done with the Jordan Brand.”

BHM Collection

THE BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2011 COLLECTION
This collection of footwear and apparel celebrates pioneering athletes Kobe Bryant, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, and Michael Jordan who each made major impacts on their sport both on and off the court. It is inspired by their amazing careers and the iconic moments that altered the course of sports history. For Kobe, besides his championships, it was in ’06 when he scored 81 points in a single game. For Erving, that moment was unifying the ABA and NBA ushering in a new era of offense with his foul line dunk during the ‘76 ABA All-Star Dunk Contest, and his “Rock the Baby” dunk during the ’83 NBA championships. For Jordan, in addition to winning six championships, it was winning the ’87 Slam Dunk title with flair that inspired kids everywhere. To symbolize their legacies, the collection highlights:
  • Modern Gold to represent all three pioneers’ championship call to greatness.
  • Historic Black to recall the black Converse Chuck Taylor All Star sneakers commonly worn by basketball pioneers in the 1960s; bestowing black sneakers with a magical aura.
  • Black African-American Handcraft to celebrate classic African-American art.
